I-NOMA Project Pipeline Teen Program 2023: Session #2

STUDENT REGISTRATION LINK MENTOR REGISTRATION LINK

This program intends to introduce and expose high-school students to Architecture and other Design Fields through an array of educational and participatory activities which includes guest speakers from various professions, firm visits, skills training, construction site/neighborhood tours, and more.

Every Saturday for 4 weeks students will be introduced to a series of design tools and learn new ways to think critically about their community. The goal is to understand different types of design career paths, be exposed to the skills needed to excel, and learn more about the work behind a project proposal and development. The four sessions will (like the Design Build) loosely follow a typical architecture project design sequence: Pre-Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Construction Administration.

This year, the location of each session will change, and be typically hosted at different architecture firms, so students will get to see different work environments each week.

As usual, lunch will be provided.

FULL SCHEDULE:

10/21 Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm (Location: Perkins & Will - 410 N. Michigan Ave, Suite 1600): Session 01 Career Day : Students will participate in engaging activities and learn about the different design professions: Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Architecture & Interiors

10/28 Saturday: No Session -- Halloween

11/04 Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm (Location: Brook Architecture - 2301 S. Michigan Ave) : Session 02 Design Charrette : Students will engage in a design charrette to imagine a space or object.

11/11 Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm (Location: HKS Architects - 125 S. Clark St. Unit 1100): Session 03 Skill Day : Students will learn about the visual and presentation tools that make design projects come to life.

11/18 Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm (UIC Engineering Innovation Building - 945 W Taylor St. & Campus): Session 04 Construction Site Tour & College Visit: We will tour an active construction site, the UIC architecture college, and close out the program.
