First-Quarter 2019 Recap
The beginning of 2019 brought several successful events for I-NOMA. Below is a recap of some of our events that we have held so far…
FEBRUARY 2, 2019
Despite the Chicago weather, we were able to hold our 2019 Advance at CannonDesign. Big thanks to Mntambo Fisher and CannonDesign for hosting the chapter as we planned our initiatives and events for the 2019 year. This was also the first time that chapter members were introduced to our new E-Board!

In order to understand the origins and history of I-NOMA, we held our first Legacy Event of 2019. A panel discussion of a few of our most seasoned members (Walter Street III, Charles Smith, Susan Carlotta Ellis, Erroll O-Neil, Ameera Ashraf-O’Neil, and Mike Rodgers) shared their stores on the rich history of I-NOMA and the legacy of Black architects in Chicago. Much appreciation to Dawveed Scully, Paul Bamson, and SOM for hosting and helping to put on such an inspiring event.
February 23, 2019
For the third year in a row I-NOMA returned to the Black Creativity Showcase. Held at the Museum of Science and Industry, this event allows children and families to talk with Black artists, scientists, and engineers about the work happening in Chicago. Douglas Williams worked to get I-NOMA back to the showcase to show students and their families the work done by Black architects in the city of Chicago.
March 13, 2019
Our first General Body Meeting was held at Smith Group, hosted by Taft Cleveland and Matthew Dumich. We had a great turnout as we discussed the status of the chapter and upcoming events for members to become involved in - such as Design Build and Project Pipeline Workshops.

The I-NOMA NextGen Career Development Day provides a platform for members to connect with professional design firms, advancing their careers and expanding their professional network. USG was gracious enough to host this event for I-NOMA. A huge thanks to Jose Estrada and our panelists for helping to put it all together!
